First axe!!!!!!

Well first part of an axe. You may have seen a post I made on today's finds a couple of weeks ago. We were looking for an old house site to metal detect in a newly logged area and picked up a few points. We did find the house and got and got a nice war of 1812 light artillery 1st regiment button and a few other keepers. So today we decided to metal detect it again. Within the first 10 min my son finds the first of his 2 points today. While I'm detecting a spot I look down in the tracks a bulldozer left and I see my first axe!! Couldn't believe it, it looked perfect until I picked it up and noticed a fresh break in the back. While I'm a little disappointed at least it should still display nice. I did look around for the other piece I couldn't find it. Next time I go back I might dig around a little bit. We've only looked over maybe 10 percent of the logged area so I'm sure there will be more points to find and maybe a whole axe.

Awesome finds! If it’s a fresh break, I’d definitely dig around that area a bit, and quickly, lest the bulldozer pulverize the other piece.

Thanks, definitely gonna go back, sad part is they left a lot of brush and limbs all over the place so we're kinda just cherry picking the spots that are down to the bare ground.
