I put my trusty companion (my detector) in the back seat and went off to work today. After work I had this great idea of checking out the county fair ground. This area has been used for the county fair for decades maybe over a hundred years... haven't really been able to pin down the exact date of first county fair at this location.

After work I drove over to the fairgrounds pulled into the lower parking lot stepped out of my car turned on the detector and boom! Strong signal ok this cant be? I dig up a penny. Ok this may be the way this works. I fill my hole swing BING! I dig a penny. Hmm good start coins no junk... I fill my hole swing BING! oh really? I dig a quarter! COOL! First three targets coins. I fill my hole swing BING! I dig another quarter! OK I have to loosen my hat at this point... Hmm I got this! :headbang:

OK the detector GODS know when to bring you down :tongue3: next 4 targets are two pull tabs and two bottle caps. Then I get a real strong signal... ok curiosity may have killed the cat but it also makes for real BIG holes. It was the entire top (or bottom) of an antique oil can about 6 inches deep... lol I fill my hole and another big strong signal so I have to dig I know its not a coin but what can it be? It turned out to be the chrome strip off a car door... hmm never thought about all the fender benders that have been in this parking lot over the decades. One more signal I got to dig before it gets to dark... another pull tab.

So the fairgrounds (or at least this part) apparently has never been worked there was a signal every 2 to 3 feet. Conservatively it will take me two years for the first pass at this rate. Well soon I will have help because I know somebody that is getting a detector for Christmas.:happysmiley:

Just think you have a good spot for years to come.

The way it was going I thought I might be ahead to get a tractor and plow to turn the entire site over... I'm sure someone would complain... lol I never got 30 feet from the car. I kept getting signals. I really wanted to get over where the old ticket booth used to be. Oh well next time I will start there before I turn the detector on and get those signals I can't ignore...

The important thing was that I had a good time. I really can't complain December in Indiana and its was 60 degrees at sunset?

P.S. I did learn that the fair board was formed in 1867 so I'm thinking the annual fair has been going about the same amount of time.
