Beep,

looking good. Some very nice finds.

Questions ???

Type of sport giving best results?

Age group, (or level of play), using field?

Any special areas, (outfield, sidline, 50 yard line, and such?)

Thanks.

have a good un...........

sherm my best spot so far is soccer field complex 6-7 silver rings (sorry i forget how many)so far about 30-40 in clad tons of can slaw .no gold yet by the way all my rings were outside the the white line sideline 3-5 feet, 2 of them were on/in the white sideline havent coverd the inner play fields to well to damn big!

Soccer fields in parks. I think they're mostly used by teenage players, but you also have other things going on like frisbee, playing catch, the occasional father/son, dog walkers, kids and people passing through. Most of the finds were found between the sideline and the center of the field, or on the sideline or by the goal. I don't think I've found anything down the center of the field. The silver rings are pretty easy to find...you have to dig a lot of trash to get the gold. The slaw can drive you bananas if you let it. :P

I've tried some school fields and have had some luck, but not as good as the park fields. I think the point is that the field should be open and used by the general public. This can pertain to school fields in some cases.

Nice, you have quite a collection of finds there and a much better start to the new year than me :) :)

What are your thoughts on digging up a soccer pitch? I won't MD on a sports field because of the work involved in grooming them and I wouldn't want to be responsible for someones sprained ankle. I suppose you could go around the edges of the field, but people would get pretty upset over here if they saw anyone digging up a soccer pitch.

Not if you do it right, although I realize that soccer is kind of a sacred thing in Europe and people may not approve (go at dawn ;)). When I'm done, you can't even tell I've been there. Here's a thread discussing proper technique...

Okay beep, I just encourage people to use proper etiquette and respect for these areas. Most of us on this site always do I would guess, but its the few who don't that give us all a bad name. Can you believe that there have been football, (soccer) pitches left with dozens of holes over here? I've heard of at least 3 cases in the last 6 mos or so, and all of these ewhere on groomed atletic fields. I'm sure none of would think that's fair.

I can't even imagine doing something like that...I think I'd wack the dude if I saw someone doing that. It's so easy to do it right it makes you wonder what the hell they're thinking.
