I've recently unearthed said shovel from the East Tx. piney woods. It was buried nearly 18" deep, but may have been moved due to some excavation some time in the not so distant past.

There is a date, or what appears to be of either 1685 or 1885 in raised relief on the handle and a " D " with a diamond border around it.

The shovel is made of heavy cast iron, but does not appear that old. At least not as old as the apparent date. This may merely be a brand or certain model of the tool.

Heck if I know, that is why I solicit your assistance.

Can anyone help?

Thankyou.
