Just think, if the Forrest Service and BLM had not stopped the logging on our public land, how much profit they could have put towards improving our public land instead of having it go up in smoke. They even went around closing the fire roads to restrict public access which hindered the fire fighters. I think they have to take a close look at their management policies. Frank...

I do not know if it is still true, but BLM land was closed to Americans for even gathering deadfall, which provides a huge source of fuel for these fires.

I did see that there is a huge effort to protect the Sequoias from the fires, and that is nice, since the trees are both fire resistant, and need fire every now and then to propagate. Disinformation is everywhere! My bro-in-law said it is an opportunity to spend tax dollars, and he is absolutely right.

Yea, they use to spend time clearing brush, now they spend time closing the roads. I wish it could be 'public land' again. Frank...

I could'nt agree more frank.. You make a very strong point..

I wonder if this will change their policies? Like opening the fire roads, dead brush cleanup, logging etc. You know the old saying,'Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it'. Or something like that. Last time I was out there, they had actually closed off the entrance on the road to the claim I was working. It was a rough ride getting my MH out of there. Lucky I have 4 wheel drive.MN300.jpg Frank...

“Conservation is getting nowhere because it is incompatible with our Abrahamic concept of land. We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.”
― Aldo Leopold

“The last word in ignorance is the man who says of an animal or plant, "What good is it?" If the land mechanism as a whole is good, then every part is good, whether we understand it or not. If the biota, in the course of aeons, has built something we like but do not understand, then who but a fool would discard seemingly useless parts? To keep every cog and wheel is the first precaution of intelligent tinkering.”
― Aldo Leopold, Round River: From the Journals of Aldo Leopold

Yup, leave it all so it can burn itself down, Don't let anything become a part of the natural food chain or ecosystem.

I don't know about those mosquitoes and ticks. The only thing they are good for is spreading disease. Frank...111-1 profilecracked.jpg

It would be if the fruits would quit causing trouble. Trashing areas, shooting on restricted areas, meth labs everywhere. Heck the labs cost thousands to clean up and most fire are started by people or these labs. That's why they close the lands, it's the old one ruins it for everyone.

I guess they take the easy way out! It's easier to lock everyone out than catch the bad guys. Or is it? the bad guys are still in there! Frank...

I agree the only thing laws do is make it easier for the criminals, while the law abiding suffer. It's very aggravating expecially when it's tax dollars going to buy the land.

not one of you know who aldo leopold is or his place in American history...too sad.

How big can a persons name be in history if no one has ever heard of him?

Sawing old tree.
Trapping chickadees, planting pines, mourning last passenger pigeon ,watching last prairie signs go,the river painting, owning the world he touched till dew dried, geese, and his morning coffee routine writing down bird types by sound, the draining of sand county, and more.A more personal view of a view.

Aldo Leopold was the founder of the science of Game Management, and one of the early biologist that charted the planning for the sustained yield of our natural renewable resources. Contrary to what you hear those who think they are experts, wildlife, and trees are a renewable resource that will grow perpetuate, and continue to populate themselves. Since these resources are important to our economy, ( most of you do live in timber houses), Leopold developed the science by which these important resources are maintained at healthy levels. He was also one of the first to recognize the use of fire, in controlled burns to secure some of these strategies. He also lost his life fighting a wildfire that was out of hand. If you ever find a copy, and are interested, pick up a copy of "A sand County Almanac", and read it, you'll quickly find out who Aldo Leopold was, and the importance of his work......

I get it. Father of forestry. the first fella to understand that trees can grow and we can keep cutiing them down as long as we keep planting them, so that we don't Easter Island the place. I do not understand though why it was used as a counter argument to what we were saying? Just trying to be argumentative?
