I have had the Deus for about a week now and took it on a few hunts.

My yard has been hit by me with several machines so to pull a keeper is pretty rare. While I didn't find an old coin yet I did manage some pieces of trash that gives me hope. :)

I then hit a yard I hoped would be unsearched but it appears that it had been torn up and likely searched. The front yard was loaded with nails and the charcoal at around 3 inches makes me think there was a house fire at one time. I still managed a wheat back among the nails and a beautiful 1916 D nickel.

The next older lot I hit had a couple of houses and have been hammered for the past 4 weeks at least. I did manage a 1925 wheat back and a few new pennies in about 45 minutes.

I also got a little park time and managed a silver ring.

Overall first impressions are favorable. Bottle caps are a problem for me right now. The machine also seems very sensitive to small targets.

keep at it

rusty bottle caps are a pain at first. do the wiggle method and when it gets to the front edge of the coil you may hear it change tone and sound scratchy or even get a little iron buzz to it... if it stays clean you should check it out...
if you still have a problem let me know and i'll tell you about changing programs to check for caps...
keep at it ... i was a bit frustrated with the Deus at first but love it now...

Sounds like you're on the right track. Keep at it. You might consider reading up on the notch function and maybe experiment some. And also read up on how to adjust and move your tones.

I just got Andy 's book today so plenty of study ahead.

Bottlecaps (crown caps) are very easy to identify--switch to a different freq on them; if the new freq is lower, the VDI will go higher. If the new freq is lower, the VDI will go higher.....every time. And as you know, coins will be the opposite; VDIs go higher with higher freqs. This is the method I trust because I'm no good at the wiggle-back method.

That's not always the case . I found a silver dime that was reading 88-90 in 8khz , dropped it down to 4 kHz and the vdi stayed the same. Usually I would have passed it up cause most times it was a bottle cap but for some reason decided to dig and 1940 dime. Very well could have something else close by that was messing with it.
But as the saying says if in doubt dig it!

I am now into week 2 with the Deus.

Still getting used to a few things but advancing well I think. After swinging a minelab for the last 16 years or so I love, LOVE the weight and feel of this machine. I should make more recoveries based on time spent swinging versus time resting. I have brisitis in my right shoulder that I blame on swinging a sovereign for many many hours.

Pulled another silver ring today along with two dollar coins and assorted change.

Yep! Easy fix here. Its usually pretty obvious audio change.
