Went down to the fields near the Lake Champlain shore yesterday - the only place within an hour's drive of here with little to no snow. Finds were slim, but I managed to get the coil over my 10th Draped Bust LC of the year - this one's an 1800. This makes copper #41 - a good year indeed. The other good news is this is a new permission and what I call a 5'er. That's 5 sites for one permission (4 home sites and a school). Those are the types of permissions I can get used to. :laughing7: Given the long cold season up here some of those will likely have to wait until spring. HH!

41 coppers...Now that....is super impressive!!! Congratulations on what sounds like an epic season.

Very nice coin BTV. I would love to dig just one of those some day, although I did dig an 1804 Half Cent a number of years back. They just aren't to prevalent here in Illinois.

I just want one lol Wow sou ds like youve esrned all kinds of great stuff really cool piece of history my friend

Hi, that is a nice old coin you found. Congrats:icon_thumleft:

Congratualtions on the nice old copper! :occasion14:

Wow #10. I havent found 10 identifiable DBLC in over three years detecting. Do you find many reales or is it all coppers

Very nice! do you think an Andres pencil would clean that up? Or would that ruin it? Thinking of getting some to try out on old wheats first.

Good question. I find far more coppers than Reales up here, but it's not like they're rare or something. I've dug 2, 2 Reales this year (1779 & 1784) and had a friend dig a Half Reale right in front of me this past July. On the copper side for 2018, I've dug 41 so far and with friends we've dug over 60, so the ratio is definitely heavy toward the coppers up here. I hear the Reales are much more common down your way (i.e. Mid Atlantic coast).

You know, I've heard of those pencils and have considered buying some to try them out. When I dig old coppers I take a long look at the coin before deciding what's best. If it has any patina left I'll use a gentle toothpick/fingernail method. If it's a nearly wasted cornfield copper, then water and brillo my friend. This will often bring out enough detail to get an ID, and sometimes a date. Those coins aren't worth much anyway.

Well at least your finding some big Spanish silver. Ive never found a 2 reales and 15/18 of mine are half reales and most are half real cobs. I do find a lot of British coppers but fewer US. I think my area went into a economic decline after the revolution
