I found this square metal piece at a park I was checking out for the first time. It's in an area with civil war battle history, so I figured I'd give it a try
This item was around 8-10" deep on the banks of a small lake. My detector was going crazy on all signals, so I started the dig! Took about 20 minutes of careful digging until I broke it free from the sand. The remains are roughly the size of an old dictionary or encyclopedia. It opens and closes similar to a book as well, although the hinges are not intact anymore. I've brushed a lot of the sand off looking for any type of markings with no luck. I've also included some photos of some smaller items I found in the same hole. They could have been part of the larger find or related, or perhaps nothing at all to do with it.
Appreciate any input!
Cheers
