OK. Another hot day in Belair, but with long pants and long-sleeve shirt, sprayed down with "Deep Woods" OFF, I headed into the woods. Not much in the first half hour but then began to get some hits. First target was in the 50s and down about 4 inches was a flat button. About fifteen feet from the button, a "choppy" high-tone turned out to be an iron buckle. Going about 50 yards east of those two, I got a VDI of 33, but deep, so I didn't think it would be pull tab. Didn't know at first if it was a button or a coin, but removing the dirt showed I had a 1909 V-nickel. Didn't run into an yellow-jacket nests, but I did see one. Saw a hunk of iron sticking out of the ground, so I rocked it until it was freed, and out came a massive plow point. Couple hour hunt yielded some satisfying finds.

Thanks Baglady! Yes, "GILT" it is, but I didn't see any of the original gilding remain; just dry-brushed it, no olive oil.

Cool finds, great work. V nickel looks clean. It is going to be 93 here tomorrow and 95 Saturday . i would go at night if I could when the bees are sleeping.
