Finds from "under" the house

Hi all,

These weren't today's finds, they were actually from two or three hunts last spring at the same homesite. I ran across the finds in a bag by themselves today and so I'm posting them with some pics of the house. The old house is on some property my dad owns. It looks kinda spooky but I didn't hear any voices while I was there ..... other than the ones in my head. ;D After hunting outside a while I remembered that someone removed a lot of the flooring years ago so I went in and hunted inside the house. Glad I did because a found a few wheats, a Mississippi state tax token and a 1920 Merc. Outside I found a token from a long-gone dairy and a couple more wheats. I found the tax token near the fireplace and the Merc in the back door going out of the kitchen. The wheats range from the 20's to 50's.

See right there in front of that fireplace?.....That's like where I found that Luxembourg coin last week! The floor had been removed and it was in the dirt. (And it was dark in there too!) ?:o

Awesome finds Ken!!!! And about the voices .....just humm really loud....maybe it will drown them out! ?:D

? ? ? ? ? ? That really is a pretty spooky looking place...but you sure got lots of goodies there!

Those coins are pretty beat up for under the house! All the stuff come out so corroded in that area? Even the silver is crusty. cladius.

Yep, Stan that's the new abode! The agent just said it was a fixer upper at a good price. I had no idea! :D

Nana, I knew I left a coin there. I'm glad you found it though! ;)

Happy New Year!

You're right Cladius, these coins were corroded. Copper coins often corrode around here, especially in fertilized fields, but silver usually comes out clean. This is the cruddiest silver coin I've ever found. Since the floor is gone, cows have used part of the house like a barn so a possibility might be that the acid from the cow products (I ain't talkin' milk) had an affect on the coins. Or maybe fertilizer was stored there years ago.

Nice finds! Someone mentioned checking the mantel of the fireplace, old tradition was to place a coin under the mantel for good luck. HH, Mike

Re: Finds from "under" the house

Great finds!! Scan the wall under each window. Kids had a habit of dropping coins and anything they could get through the gaps in the windowsill. WTG!!! HH

Sometime in the past, maybe when the floor was "stolen", someone moved the HUGE rock that served as the hearth, I guess looking for loot. There's another fireplace in another room with the hearth still in place. Maybe I'll move it one day when I'm feeling really strong. :o
