In NC those are frills!! Couple questions. Why do those pot shards have drilled holes, or are they pendants? #2 in the upper left hand , what is the cylindrical con caved piece? Good looking post!

Those are pot chards. There is so much pottery at that site that unless they are somehow special I have only been keeping drilled ones. Its like a marker ..If I find a drilled piece I know Its fresh material. This stuff is burried in muck. It seems they drilled holes on both sides of cracks in large pots then either tied it like stitches to support it to keep the crack from getting worse..or as I belive they pressed clay over the crack and into the holes as a patch.without the holes the patch would come off.the piece you asked about is old bottle glass from the neck of the bottle. I have found alot of worked black glass there including a perfect glass point. There was Spanish contact there.

You've seen a bunch of it..jerking the chain a bit? Haha

thanks that place has just about every time period

Hi Tom good to hear from you.

I am looking forward to seeing that button cleaned. Is all your pottery smooth or is some incised or patterns? Cool finds.

Its the wrong forum but I will post anyway. Its a little cleaner now. Still a little work to do on it. The pottery I find is all of the above..lots of stamped some incised and of course plain too.

I usually like to leave patina on my buttons but the front of this one is very worn. I will need to clean it all the way to show detail. The backmark is nice. It appears to be Royal Navy.

Yeah nice flat button. Oh well I often find many types of habitation on a site. Seems all cultures knew where to park. I have a couple 5 gallon buckets of pottery and probably a whole pot or two in there. Have been framing some interesting pieces in shadow boxes and giving them away.
Nice post thanks for sharing.
