I wanted to thank you all for helping me learn my new passion . So I have a few questions. #8 is this a tool/ for what? I have trouble telling what is a tool and what isn't. I'm sure TH will say "natural" but thought I would ask. What are things to look for in tools? are my little arrowheads #5 & 6 palmer points? do all my points seem to be from the same period or different ones? FYI, I live in an area in NW GA that is well known for being inhabited by native americans for thousands of years up to the Cherokees. #7 I think this is chert, right? I have so many different colors of chert.

Don't have a preconceived notion about TH's opinions. He is well seasoned in this hobby. I think the Palmers you refer to is spot on. Everything you posted is chert except #8. #1 is possibly an Elora.

Those are mostly archaic points. The black damaged one from last time is a few more thousand years older.

I saw this post and thought you might be close to me when I saw the material lol. Nice one on#5 It sorta looks like a brewerton side notch but I am kinda rust on my typology. # 8 is natural river cobble and just been kicked around some and lost some of its patina. Just because it fits the hand does not make it so. They did use the cobble often though here is one of a bunch of river cobbles I find a little north of you. Nice hunt!!!

purpose and wear patterns... most stone artifacts have a clear recognizable purpose... and wear, if it was used it will show wear, obvious wear.

1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 all show signs of being worked, 5 and 6 are nice points, 2 would be nice if whole instead of broken, save it you may find the other half one day, the rock at the top is just a rock. Good luck in your hunting.
