Love looking in fallen tree roots. Rare that I find anything but always have big hopes! That's a nice handful from that tree, really like the little Cahokia? point, the side notch one, thanks for sharing.

yup and he found all that in a half hour and never even got done looking.....the tree was an ash tree a bit over a foot in diameter
the little arrow point is a pekisko/plains side notch type maybe a bit over 5 or 6 hundred years old.....
....it is made from TRSS (tongue river silicified sediment) more commonly called chert or gray chert here in the dakotas

glad you like it and thanks dlos

Yes sir, those artifacts come to the surface in some cool ways. A good friend of mine had the road grader deposit one, (a very nice celt) at the base of his mailbox a couple years ago.

Time to dig must be more. How deep was the roots?

Talk about special delivery!!

Nice finds. What is the material on the root beer colored one ? Almost looks like a four way knife or a Harahey, as we call them in Ks. Really enjoy your posts !

I live on a heavily forested piece of acreage, when them hemlocks fall in a wind strom I find a whole lot of nothing in the roots!

The rootbeer colored one is Knife River Flint. It looks like a very nice well used drill to me.

well rock the funny thing is the tree fell over from erosion and wind on a slope so steep that it was almost impossible to negotiate for me......but john is a better climber than me
anyway the tree fell uphill and the root ball is about 6 feet in diameter and all he did was get at the dirt he could look at by scratching around in the dirt with his gloves on so i am thinking it holds quite a bit more pieces, maybe some more scrapers and such things like that.
i am gonna drive around to the bottom of that hill and go up hill to it from the bottom which is not as steep and only a 25 foot jog, rather than a 35 foot drop through the darn poison ivy and stinging nettles.....i hope to have one more favorable report after this weekend when i try it again....i hope it will be worth it
.............i will let you know if it is
