Hello everyone, thank you all again for the tips last week! So, I honestly think I’d forgotten that Jamaica doesn’t allow metal detectors, regardless, I’ve taken mine 4x now (2015, 2019, 2022 & 2023) and never had a problem. We split our time this year between 2 resorts, 6 days at each. The first resort (our 1st trip there) had a protected cove where the beach was located and the sand was almost like clay, it was extremely difficult to dig in but that also kept the targets from getting too deep so was also nice. The second resort (our 3rd trip there)had bigger waves and also a ton and I mean ton of lead, I only pulled out maybe 20 lbs of it this trip, in the past I’ve pulled out nearly 50 lbs. The swim area is half exposed rock and half soft sand that goes down several feet until you hit rock but since it’s much rougher items sink quickly. I also get the dive shop guys to let me borrow five weights for the week. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to really detect much the last 3 days at the 2nd resort due to poor weather and the water being so dirty and rough. I hunted both resorts anywhere from ankle deep to 6ft deep with mask and snorkel for deeper areas.

I first got out 8/10 for my birthday in the early morning and found several coins and a tungsten ring. I went out again in the afternoon and found 2 more tungsten rings and a 14k white gold men’s wedding band weighing 9.24g so all in all a very good birthday!

On 8/11 I got out and found 2 rings, the first was a titanium ring and the 2nd turned out to be my biggest gold for the trip, it’s a 14k men’s wedding band yellow gold weighing 13.81 g and still has coral crusted around it which I left on bc it looks cool!

On 8/12 I got out and found a single 14k men’s white gold wedding band weighing 8.12 grams and on 8/13 I found a silver ring weighing 13 grams and a 3.91 gram 10k signet ring with a small diamond chip.

On 8/13 we moved resorts and 8/14 I found my last ring of the trip, a 14k white gold men’s wedding band weighing 7.63 grams. I hunted 8/15-8/17 but couldn’t find anymore rings. It’s definitely not hunted out, simply is quite hard to hunt, if I had the expertise of some of the guys here I’d probably do much better! Total of 3.91 grams of 10k and 38.8 grams of 14k made me quite happy though!

Sorry about the photos adding randomly, it’s hard to do on your phone, I have one of the tungsten rings to a bartender there so the picture with the rings only shows 9 but my total was 10 rings (5 gold!!) the first time I’ve ever found that many!

How do you know that if nobody said anything ? Just asking for a friend ;D

Mighty glad you did so well. My first three trips were fabulous also...the last one Customs confiscated ALL my and another travelers detecting gear and held it until 2 ours before our flight out of Jamaica. Then we were escorted from Custom's office to the ticket counter where the attendant had to sign for the baggage. The Custom's official did not leave until the bags were on the way to the plane and out of sight. It really made for a not so good vacation.

In the USA and also I have traveled to Colombia and Costa Rica, I just have it in my Carry On bag and carry it with me through security. Nobody has ever said anything.. but that being said they probably weren't looking for a metal detector..
