Hello everyone, this is my first post, so hopefully all goes well with it. I live in an American 4-Square that was built in 1907. We have been restoring it for the past 2 years. It was hit head on by a tornado on Palm Sunday, 1920, and survived with only a broken window and crumbled chimney! There's something to be said about living in a solid brick house.
Anyway, two of the first coins that I found right off the bat was an 1885 V Nickel, man was I surprised when I looked it up and found that it was one of the rarest V nickels minted! Of course that got my hopes up that I had bought a house surrounded with lots of old coins, especially when the next coin I found was a 1907 Indian Head right next to the side walk, just like the V Nickel. Well, to say in the least, those two have been my best finds so far, besides one badly corroded merc, the rest have been mostly pennies, nearly eighty of them! Apparently back in the 80's, a family lived there that raised 7 boys in the house, I find pennies everywhere, on window sills, in the key holes of doors, in the attic, between windows and storm windows, nothing but modern clad, but still - a lot of them. A few batches of pennies that I found in the back yard had 3 pennies taped together about 4 inches in the ground. The pennies in the pic were all dug from the yard.
I've been hunting with a Tesoro Bandido II uMAX that I've had for a few years. Haven't gotten out to hunt as much I would like over the past few years, but now that I live in a very old city and am self employed, I'm planning on getting out much more often. I just bought a new Garrett GTI 2500! I'm excited as can be to get out and use it, but of course, as soon as I bought it, it stopped raining here, the temps are near 90 and the ground is rock solid. So, I will have to wait. In the mean time, I'll research new locations to hunt and work on obtaining permission. I have spent a few hours using it around my house because, come on, I had to, even if I dig kill of a plugs of turf due to the heat. Since I hadn't found any silver yet, I assumed that the Tesero couldn't pick them up at deeper depths, so far with the GTI 2500, I've only found a couple more pennies and dime. I assume that I will need to go slower and be more patient.
Well, thanks for taking time to view and read my first submission, now that my introduction is out of the way, the rest of my posts should be much shorter.
Take care and HH
