Finds from an 1850?s trash pit.
To all:
Picked up the attached at a trash pit here in South Texas. The day was in the 70?s with a light wind. It has been several months from the last time I had time to get away and do some digging and sifting. The pit is so trashy that a medal detector is useless. It is a good work out this was produced from around 15 wheel barrel loads sifted over 7 hours.
From top to bottom and left to right (as best I can) are the items listed.
Leather sole from a boot, end of a spoon, iron hook (nap sack?), buckles (1-brass and 3 iron), a pile of percussion caps, brass handle? 1 large sporting button (has two quail on it), 8 eagle buttons (2-Rifel, 6-Infentry, 1-eagle and shield for a cap), Lead buttons, iron buttons, wood buttons, bone and peril buttons, brass hook for a nap sack? Brass saddle button, hat buckle, Pipe, pipe fragments, 2-three ring mine balls, assortment of round balls (one has been wormed), the remains of a hardy hat eagle (I waked it with the shovel).
I had a great day.
Thanks for reading and keep on digging.
