While I sell detectors, I really like swinging them a whole lot more... over the last two weeks I was able to take two trips to the hot soils of northern VA with the GPX 5000. While there was nothing earth shattering found, the quantities were there... so sooner or later something really cool will make its presence known to the GPX. :laughing7:

Anyhow, the first picture shows the results of hunt #1, which was a field I had been eying for a while, but could not get into until that day. I didn't have any documentation saying anything happened there, just a sense that I should check it. Well, the GPX did a great job of sniffing out some goodies.... the neatest object was probably the lead "nail", made from a bullet! I was really disapointed that the rim of the staff officer buttons fell apart as they were coming out of the hole, they would have been decent otherwise.

The second picture is from another property I recently obtained permission to hunt.... this one didn't show up on my maps either as having anything of signifigance, but I wanted to check it anyway. In looking at the property, I guessed where I might find a camp... and found it. :hello2: I really like the variety of finds at this one, and kept hoping for an artillery shell after finding the friction primer, but it was not to be on this day. The brass was really corroded at this site... those cartridge cases were almost completely gone... and the large cent didn't fare well either. :sadsmiley: It is strange in that it is ever so slightly smaller in diameter than normal, but the front is gone to try to ID it.

Thanks for looking, guys.

Some great Relics there Keith. Good sites are becoming harder and harder to find. Good luck this fall. HH, Quindy.

Great finds of many years of lost history. Each time I find something good I always wish I knew who, what, where, when and why this particular item ended up where I dug it. The mysteries behind the items are what I think of many hours after I find it and just about every time I look or share with others my finds. Thank you very much for sharing.

Thanks guys! Its always fun just to get out, and even more fun when something turns up. 8-) That second site has some promise for maybe a good button or two... fingers crossed for the next trip.

Keith, nice to see you giving that GPX a good workout. Like I told you, that second site has good potential for confederate brass. Tongue & Wreath buckles tend to turn up where those ringtails are found. Especially in Culpeper County.

I am drooling on my keypad. Super recoveries. Lots of history there. :occasion14:
Thanks for the post,
MM
