Well, my original post got wiped out by the implosion, so lets try this again!

Went with a couple of 'tectin' buddies to one of my spots. Two houses on this property, one being a trun of the century home... the other built in the 20's. We went to the old one since it's pretty much only huntable in the winter becuase of weeds, brush , etc.

Back in February, I dug a beautiful 1906 Barber dime from here, along with a 30's or 40's Mercury dime that was in real nice shape too. I had high hopes for digging my first 1800's silver piece, but it wasn't meant to be today! However, I'm pretty pleased with the results!

Here's a very nice suspender buckle I found. The "white" area is very pearlescent.... like mother of pearl maybe? The picture does it no justice:

I eventually also found 3 Military buttons. The one in the middle I suspect is a cuff button? It's the smallest one I've ever dug. Very cool!

I also wound up digging 3 dog tags. The old homeowner told me before he passed away this fall that his dad was friends with the sherriff back in the day and he would get the years unused dog tax tags and use them to give to the workers. As they pick bushels of veggies or fruits, he would give them a tag that they cashed in at the end of the day for their pay!

Here's a pic of all the goodies:

The pennies are both wheats... 1944 and 1944S

Thanks for looking!

Happy New Year everyone!

Nice finds Beetle! I really like the buckle and buttons, interesting history about those dog tags. HH, Mike

WTG I sure like your neat finds. The story was very interesting. Good luck in your future finds.

Great stuff beetle!!!

;)

I did find out that the 2 bigger buttons are somewhat "rare" (exactly HOW rare, I don't know). They are both marked "City Button Works New York" and apparently they didn't mark too many of them as such. Most made by City Button Works has NO manufacturer marks on them... at least says someone out there on the net.

Thanks for the kinds words, folks! I've been blessed with several WW1 era buttons this year. Maybe next year I can get a few older ones!
