It looks like the top of a gas bottle. Not for sure. Is it threaded inside.

looks like the valve cover from a gas cylinder, like nitrogen or welding gas

inside looks like the inside of an automotive distributor cap! you have the center contact from the coil and the surrounding contact points for each cylinder for the rotor!

I put it on what is it, and after looking at it closer and with the help of what is it. We have decided that it is a distributer cap of some kind. I have it soaking in water to see if I can get it to come apart. IMO it should come apart, I do not know how they would get the wires in on the side..
