I managed several hunts while on a business trip over the past 3 weeks and met up with two seasoned detectorists for a fun hunt. Had a great time hunting new sites but it was very hot and the ground was rock hard. Here are a few of the sites I hunted, the first picture was a German Air Defense Flak site during WWII. The Americans converted it into a Hawk Missile Air Defense site after WWII and built up the mounds of dirt even higher than they were thus, covering the older targets. I didn?t find much here.
This second site is a sport stadium built during Hitler?s regime, spent many hours here detecting and later found out after talking to a few park workers that most of the areas I was hunting had been rebuilt after WWII meaning, they took away the top soil and built it as sport fields all around the stadium. I still managed a few interesting finds.
Obverse of a few coins I found around the stadium. 1938 German 2 Pfenning, 1974 French 10 Centimes, 1945 English 3 Pence. Found many other coins as well but the WWII coins are crusty and the American coins are just clad, about $3.00 worth.
Reverse of the coins
4 American Army unit crests I found
A few relics I found, left piece I thought was a small thimble but it could be a tire air valve cap but there is no way to attach it as it has no threads. Top piece looks like a handle that would have had a string through it to open curtains for example. Bottom two are buttons.
Gold and silver. Found the earring at a beach, looks like gold but has no hallmarks. The St. Christopher pendant is 925 silver. Everywhere I detected I found many brass ammo casings, they were worse than pull tabs. I also had problems detecting the park areas as I have little experience detecting these kind of places, the trash kicked my butt! Respect to all you park hunters.
Here?s the old copper coin I posted last week found at the stadium. A numismatist friend (Thanks Steve) gave it a good looking at and thinks it dates to around 1200-1400 AD due to its features but he didn?t have much to work with.
Reverse of the old coin. HH all and thanks for looking, Mike
