Finds at 1795, 1822, and 1830's Houses: Large Cents, Seated, Tokens, IH's+More!!
I have depleted most of my available hunting sites, so I decided to knock on a few doors of houses I have been eyeing over the years. First house was built in 1822, and was the most prominent historic mansion in the town. I was happy to learn that the house has remained in the same family since 1822, and the owners were very receptive and interested in my hobby. When they showed me around the inside of the house, I felt as if I was stepping back in time. 1800's wood floors, along with portraits and antiques from the early 1800's were everywhere. I made 2 trips to the site over the past couple weeks with some nice results: buttons, a cool key type thing, an 1859 canadian cent, silver rosie, a nice crotal bell, 1824 large cent in great shape, 1891 seated dime, 2 indian heads, and a lot of wheat pennies. The 2 large ornate buttons were found hours apart and in different parts of the yard, which I thought was pretty neat.
Next house was built in 1795, or so the story goes. I didn't find too much here. I got a nice 1820 large cent, a really cool skeleton key, and an old Yale lock.
Also included is the holed 1837 Bank of Montreal Halfpenny that I found at another 1830's house last week.
The 1941 Merc was found at my work establishment, a golf driving range built in the 70's, near an old farmhouse foundation that I found on the range.
Thanks for looking!!
