It's been raining a lot the last few days. The warmer than normal temperatures and the rain melted off the snow we had. Two weeks ago, the temperature was below normal, in the low teens, with winds of 5 to 15 putting wind-chill temps in the single digits.

Today was the day, or none for a while. The temperature today got into the low 40s, it's been very foggy every morning and sometimes all day as the frozen ground get rain for days.

As expected the foggy defused light heightened the experience as did what I thought was relevantly dry conditions considering all the snow melt and rain for days. Its raining now, hard and expected to continue through the evening. Only once did I sink into the soaked mire when I had to go down the rise into the bottoms through a small creek. The goo going up to my ankle on each step for maybe 15 to 20 steps, not too bad. And bonus, I found a point down there in the bottoms.

A broken point, colorful white. White can be colorful.

A white and slightly pink hafted scraper

A very thin, serrated point, sans base. Bummer. I thought it was a flake and flipped it. It was in the mud to the right.

Here it is as seen when I flipped it.

Very nice white and pink bird point, slight tip damage. Its made on a flake, one side it's all flaked, on the other the side shows in the point the flake face, around its edges flaked.

Slate relic part, could be a bottom of a gorget or pendant, don't think it was a poll of a celt.

A white thumb scraper, 97.232767512 % are found with the flat side up.

I suspect this is a Harrison County nodule. The area does not have much hardstone, it's there but not overly high number. I checkout most hardstone since many axes, pestles and a few celts have been found in this area.

This is the point I found in the start of the bottoms.

Just before I started out, I found this Harrison County flint scraper.

The bottom of the scraper. Very few if any flaking on the bottom.

From the top to one side, you can see the edge work. From tip to base, flaking along the edge.
scraper_d.jpg

The other side of the ridge. The external rind of the nodule is seen. note the mineralization on the rind area. This area will build up mineralization faster and more abundant than what is on the higher sheen flint that's on the inside the nodule.

This view shows a few areas of flaking, the other to the left are natural but not flaking

Interesting

Boy that Gorget is a sad thing being broken. Is there any sign of a drill hole? Good job on the recoveries
nope.

no sign any drilling was attempted on the slate.

I did find three undrilled pendant preforms in the field across the water way a number of years back. completely polished with no drilling.

Not much slate where I have permission at now. I miss the other places I used to be able to hunt. Houses all went up

Nice hunt, like those stemmed pieces

That’s the equivalent of 6 months work for me, great day for sure wide variety of tools and materials
