Went over to see an old friend today, and on the way stopped at the place Jack hangs out at, to get a soft drink.

Got an Xtra large soda and paid with 2- one dollar bills. The clerk dumps the change in my hand, and I notice a different looking quarter sized coin. (Not a Washington)

I pulled over to the side of the parking lot and looked closer at the coin.

I couldn't believe it.!!!! :o
This is what I got. 1892 P Barber quarter. :icon_sunny: :headbang:

Always check your change from fast food places. You might get a nice suprise.

You found that one the easy way, someone handed it to you! No digging involved! Congrats!!! :occasion14:

You did better than me.....I went to Burger King a couple weeks ago and when I got the change back, I heard that beautiful sound of silver :) and one of the quarters was a 1938 Washington. Not too shabby but no Barber.....congrats!

these kids don't know. they steal there dad's collection and buy a burger. when i worked in my f-i-l's garage in the 80's i was paid with all kinds of silver. and gold. i would make fair exchange with him and take home the treasure. i think that is what got me hooked. people tough on luck would do the same but they knew what they were spending. i felt bad for some and said, come pay me when you got it. no wonder i had to work two jobs.

Amazing!

My wife works for a clothing retailer and she frequently brings me home wheat pennies, war nickels, and occaisionally silver roosevelt dimes. Never a barber though! I'm going to tell her to look harder!

Man thats incredible! I always check my change too but haven't found anything great yet. Way to go!

Old coins are always in circulation in inner city slums. The crackheads steal coin collections and redeem them at face value for Philly Blunts.

Nice find! My oldest "eyeball" find has you beat by a few years. I found a 1573 Dutch Oord on the ground near an old churchyard in Europe a few years ago!

V she made up for not finding a barber by telling you to buy that Gold dollar!!

That P mint mark might be a rare one. I hope it is, but it's proably an O. Good eye either way.

You're right you know. I do owe her one. A big one. I guess this makes up for her making me go see that movie "the Notebook" a few years ago. No joke, the first lady is a winner!

I would not have made it out of the parking lot. I would have marched back in and bought something else or ask if they had any more funny coins like that one......

Sweeeeeeeet thats the best find ever. You know I accidently gave out a perfect buffalo nickel at my work, it was like mint condition and I didn't pay any attention to it.

True to that!!!! I never give customers change without checking it first when I work at my hollywood Video Job. They look at me like I am some kind of weirdo sycopath person. I just want to make sure there is no silver going into their hands. If I find any silver or wheaties; I usually trade them for one of my memorial cents that I usually have in my pocket.

lots of people who work at fast food places are careless.thats why your order is never right. lol.i pay in halves a lot.most of the time they think its a dollar.lucky for them i am honest.ive been looking for illinois state quarters here.i was too dumb to get them when they were first made. after looking thru 7000 dollars.i found a few illinois but no silver. kept 36 bicentennial ones too.

Dime,
Looks like I've been hunting the wrong spots for Barber quarters. :icon_scratch: Very cool. I still haven't found one of those yet. :'(
Congrats,
MM
