find out who owns a part of land

I wanted to know if it is possible to find out who owns a part of land online for free. I found a good metal detecting spot but I don't know who owns the land it's on. I really don't want to go to the courthouse.

Where are you from? I use cagisonline and it will tell me who owns any property in my area for free. You can also type in your county with GIS after it in Google and can usually find the GIS data for your area.

I live in New castle pa I will try to check out the stuff you mentioned

Your county tax records should have that info. They're usually free if you go down to the courthouse and they're sometimes available online.

Here is the GIS info for you. Blow up the map till you can find the parcel. Click the blue circle with the i inside it, to find who owns the land.

You may alai look up you County's "CAD" site, which is through the county tax office like cudamark recommended. I use our CAD site regularly and it's free. Hope this helps

I think they got tired of me asking and put up a GIS for my county. Much easier.
