Well today started out as many other days did. Wes and I had some time on our hands so we headed out to a section of field that hasn't been hit very hard yet by either of us. Before we headed out into the field I showed Wes a big horseshoe I found on my previous solo hunt. He's been kicking my butt ever since he found a small horseshoe about a month ago, and I figured this new horseshoe might be the golden ticket to a day where I can get back on top.
The day started off quick for me. First target I pulled out of the ground was a nice 1897 Indian Head penny. Followed shortly by a nice round ball. Could be as old as war of 1812. We were getting very few signals in the field we started out in so we jumped to a field next to it and as soon as I stepped onto it I was rewarded with a nice 1926 Buffalo nickel. So far I was ahead of Wes and it looked like the horseshoe was working to my advantage.
We followed each other around the field with our E-tracs digging signal after signal and after an hour or so Wes called me over to a beautiful sound 12-45 on his E-trac. I told him I'd bet him anything it was a silver dime. He dug the hole and about 6" down out popped exactly what I thought it was. He landed a nice 1954 silver Rosie. So as far as I was concerned he was now on top. There goes the horseshoe...Or so I thought. Another hour went by and we hadn't gotten much else to get excited about in the second field so after a quick water/food break we headed to another small field nearby.
I had gridded this field a couple days before but knew there were still treasures waiting to be found. I was happy to find a nice concave flat button shortly after stepping onto the field. We continued deeper into the small sliver of a field and after digging a few iffy signals that turned out to be junk I hit a NICE signal! I'm talkin about a signal that you don't see every day on the E-trac. I called Wes over to hear it and watch me dig it up. The E-trac was chirping at me and showing a consistent 01-40/01-41. I've gotten my hopes up on this signal before, as all E-trac users should know, this is BIG silver area! I started the camera rolling, pinpointed the target, and dug the plug. As soon as I flipped the plug out of the hole I saw IT!!!
The BIG reeded edge of a silver coin!!! 
Once Wes got his camera rolling as well I picked it up to find out I had just dug a beautiful 1924 Silver Peace Dollar!!! 
I still can't believe it! Never in a million years did I imagine that I would ever dig a giant silver coin like this! It absolutely made my day/month/year!!!
