Well OK maybe bite is not a good word. This is lengthy so..
Here's How it happened. I've been casing a place out for about a week. The place looked good on google earth and the plat maps put an old farm house on the property back in the mid 1800's. This place had huge trees ( some old oaks dated back 150 years). Now this was all gone. The trees had been cut, the houses (two 1900's which replaced the farmhouse) were torn down for a set of condo's. This gets me angry to say the least but thats another story!
I went down on New Years day and surveyed the property. Talking to one of the neighbors they said that the property was in the hands of a contractor who was not planning on doing anything til later in the month, so I decided what the heck, I'll give it a go. I was going thru the lots (about 2 acres) and ran into nothing but wood chips at least 4 inches thick throughout most of the property, eventually I landed on a nice grassy spot where I got a hit dug and out pops a quarter! run the MD over again and still registers quarter out pops another and then 3 pennies afterward. All clad.. hmmm I pulled a bunch of old nails from one spot they kept coming and coming all registering penny/dime.. getting discouraged I run up another small patch of grass, this time the VDI is reading silver. I dig and start to pull up what looks like china bits, only they aren't china but very thin porcelain. Md'ng again still silver. I put my hand in and OUCH!!! a huge gash on my ring finger blood coming out at a good rate, but what do I have?? but a silver spoon in my hand! I put my glove back on to tide off the blood cuz I saw a glimmer back in the hole.. out pops a piece of what looks like a blue china sugar bowl, but wait something else in the hole out pops a apothecary bottle which reads "full measure", under that another bottle with no markings, and another one thats smaller! Wow I'm jumping up and down! But as I look in the hole I see more and more and more bottles.. but my finger is now throbbing and there is blood everywhere! I have to get my finger attended to. I'll have to wait to excavate the rest!

3 words for you: FIRST AID KIT. Always carry one in my car.

Excellent finds. I hope you can return to that location soon so you can salvage those other great bottles, etc. WTG. Anxiously awaiting pix of the stuff from future digs there. Good luck and keep the glove ON next time. (Get some sturdy, genuine leather gloves)

Could be the jackpot you have been looking for? Monty

Nice finds, could get interesting there! I usually wear gloves when detecting. HH, Mike

Hmm very interesting keep us posted. Good luck over there.

Thanks for all the posts, I'll get back there soon. I usually DO wear gloves but this soil was so sandy and so easy to dig in it was too tempting to not wear em. I'll be packing the 1st Aid kit from now on!
The bottles and spoon are dated from 1870's to early 1900's. I'll be getting back there this weekend this weather is outrageous!

Happy Hunting!

Next time you are at the Docs office, see if he will give you a suture kit or two. I have had occasion to use a couple of mine and it kept me gold prospecting instead of going to the nearest hospital. Of course this takes a little knowledge about aspetic techniques, and some knowledge of human anatomy/physiology, so if you aren't 100% comfortable with it then forget what I said.
Seems like you have a great area to hunt some very cool stuff, but like others have said...You need a first aid kit for just such a thing as this.
Great finds though!

Sounds like a nice place to keep digging at. Good thing you made it there before the big equipment did!
Hope the finger is better by the weekend.

Good idea for the first aid kit...I hadn't thought of carrying one with me.
