In my first full year detecting (Last Year), I found more gold rings then Wheat Cents. It really depends on where you are, where you hunt, what machine you are using and how good you are with that machine. This year has been a little better on Wheaties. I love finding them almost as much as Silver and Gold.

Congrats! Yeah, I've been out of the loop for a few years at least, but I do recall those wheats were far and few between unless you stumble on virgin soil. My old IDX Pro found wheats at 11 honest inches at times in parks that were hunted thousands of times. That machine loved wheats and dimes.

I still get excited when i find a wheat penny. You found it when nobody else did. Congrats!

My very first MT find with my Compadre was a Wheat penny in my back yard. Since then, with my MTX I have been too Old schools, log cabins(very nice buckle shield 1879, still only got wheat pennies. I still ain't gave up hope, I am new to this also. Dale

Wheat cents are getting much harder to find in public areas around me, I have only found one so far this year in puplic. Private areas are a lot better at giving up wheaties. Your day will come.....GRiley

I only have 5 for the year and one silver not doin so good

Damn I've only been detecting for 1.5 months and already have 50 wheaties. I thought that was normal!

when I first started detecting, I didn't find them under every blade of grass, but they were under every other one.

Congratz on your first , location ,location location & often wheat,s and other nice items turn up when you least expect them too.

I've dug 14 wheats this year so far...oldest from 1920. Nice job on your wheat cent. Now go find a 1909 V.D.B. cent. ;)

My oldest was a 1909

I did find a 1898 V nickel two weeks after starting. So, I have done ok.

V nickel still eludes me

i find more wheat's then clad around here ive found a butter bowl half full of wheats so far this year

You found nearly the oldest possible - 1910 , nicely done ! In about nine years of detecting , I still haven't found an Indian Head !
hey - I didn't find my first buffalo nickel until last summer- and I haven't yet found a standing liberty quarter , or a seated of any kind.
(I lived in one of the oldest continuously settled areas of the U.S. - Santa Fe, NM.- for most of my years detecting thus far )

No v nickel for me but I've been pulling wheat Pennies like they are going out of style...i have one school that I've pulled 75+ out of in the last couple weeks. Research schools in your area and find the old ones..gl and hh

Its not easy finding wheats out here but one will surface occasionally. Anymore I don't use soap and water on them but instead use that Baby oil stuff they seem to turn out better for me, true some are just toasted but I enjoy saving them anyways!
