Well, I finally did it today! I ordered my Garrett ACE250, which will be shipping from CA on Thursday. I can't wait for it, and some good detecting weather to get here! I'm dyng to get back out there and add to my 6 mos THing experience! I'll keep my BH Pioneer 101 as a back up, and for my wannabe buddy and my daughter to use. My buddy's land was an old farm back on the 1700-1800s, and there are tons of old colonial era stone walls running through the woods on his property, and a clearing near a section the wall that we think was once a home site or barn. This is our major detecting area for the spring, once the weather warms up a bit, and I plan to work the ACE250 to the bone hunting this area. Once we get started, hopefully in another 3 or 4 weeks, I'll post results, as well as feedback on the ACE250 and how it compares to the BH. HH ALL!

Sounds like you have a great place to hunt and with a new Garrett on the way I bet warmer wether just is not gettin there soon enough.
Until then read all the TH mags you can and take in all the advice they give .
I know I would still be digging pull tabs if I hadn't started reading the techniques in the mags . oh and the owners manual a few times.

Great job on the purchase. I just purchased one myself for my sons to use. I'll be looking for your posts on the feedback concerning the 250. I'll post some of my experiences with it as well for everyone to chew on :)

Hope your weather starts cooperating for ya :)

Thanks guys! I will post some feedback and results on it as soon as the weather gets warmer. We are going to comb the aforementioned area with both the new Garrett ACE250 and my BH Pioneer 101, so I should get some good comparison feedback on them.

Youre gonna like the 250 kidd. It will take some getting used to compared to the BH 101. Its like night and day. Believe me......I know. I upgraded at the 1st of the year.

I found silver in my mother inlaws yard with the 250....my 101 missed the Barber dime
<<<<<<<<
I found it at about 8" right beside of a hole I had dug while using the 101. I have also found a 64 Rosie that it missed also.

Just start out with the sensitivity set on 4 bars.....anymore and you'll get frustrated. Its a touchy machine. Also make sure your coil wire is snug to the shaft. Use a velcro strip or tape.

Only dig 2 way signals....if you cant get the tone to repeat its most likely trash or iron.

Pinpointing takes a little getting used to too. I hadnt got the hang of it when I found the Barber dime and scratched the back of it :'( I still have trouble with it but not as bad. I usually end up digging a plug the same size as the center opening of the coil to be safe.
