I think my first post on here was Tuesday of last week ... I said that I couldn't find silver to save my life and had never detected a single silver coin. That very same day I decided to go to a location I've been avoiding. It's the most obvious place that you would assume had been hunted at least a million times by a million different people.
I stepped out of the car, turned on my etrac and literally in the spot my etrac was setting I pulled out a 1928 wheatie. I worked my way over to the area I was interested in from a 1940 aerial photo and found 4 more wheats on the way. Got to the place I was going to start a grid and the first signal was a 1944 Merc. That day, in a couple hours, I dug 3 mercs and a Washington.
Excitedly, I went back the next day and again, in a few hours, I dug 4 more mercs, a rosie and another Washington.
My grandpa couldn't believe what I was telling him when I got home and the next day he decided to go with me. Nothing but wheaties. Bummer. Determined, I went back again the next day and with the advice of my grandpa decided to redo the areas I had already gone through but go the opposite direction, at a snails pace and dig the pretty iffy signals. It paid off because my my first two signals were a Washington and a Rosie fairly close to plugs I had already dug.
Moral of the story? Don't give up or be discouraged because it took me a little over 3 months of serious detecting to find my first ... Second, third, tenth, twelfth silver. 12 silvers in just a few days and in those few days I feel like I learned a LOT about the etrac ... I honestly couldn't be happier.
Luckily no one was around when I pulled that first Merc out ... caught up in the excitement I was laughing to myself and sounding insane lol
