After canning applesauce for the better part of Sat. a few hours of R & R were in store for today. It was spitting snow and 34 degrees but at least the ground would be easy digging at the farm. I first relocated the other part of the relic I found earlier this week. (Slippery Jack thought it may be an ignition plate to a Model T.) The complete plate reads: "Ford Motor Company, Detroit, Mich. USA" and "auto synchron coil spark" and at the bottom "mag off bat." I'm glad I got the entire plate now.
I gradually worked my way to the front yard and eventually got a good coin signal. A penny came up at about 4 inches and I could barely read "one cent" on the back. I thought it was a wheatie at first but the wheat leaves didn't look right. A bit more rubbing on my jeans and I could see Lady Liberty in a headdress. Yeah!! Finally....this puppy was a long time coming!
I can't wait to get back there and hunt some more. While raking last week, my husband trimmed some of the lower dead spruce branches in the front yard opening up more square footage to detect.
Thanks for looking and inspiring me to keep at it.
