It's been a dry January for me. I've found a total of 18 wheaties in three boxes of CENTS, one silver dime (1957-D) from $100 of CWR, no silver from from the $225 of MWR of dimes, 8 CU-NI clad Ikes - one from every year except 1973, and nothing good in $83 worth of Kennedy's from teller trays. I was dumping today when of course, I asked if they had any halves or Ikes. Teller told me no, but then remembered she has $11 of halves in her teller tray (and also $100 in presential dollars she was practically begging me to take). I edge checked real quick to her teller tray and spotted a gray rim, so of course I offered to buy them all. She quickly obliged, but when she got to the gray rim, she stopped, and did a bounce test. "This one is silver" she announced, and then checked the date. "Yep, 1964. So I will sell you $10.50 in halves." My eyes probably bugged out of my head, because they next thing she said was "Oh, well. I should've spotted it earlier. I can't pull coins from infront of a customer."
And with that, I gained a 1964 Kennedy- my first silver half of 2012, and my first 90% in a year.
Also, a branch of my normal dump bank is closing. Should I offer to help "clean the vault" and take some of their boxes? I've picked up from that branch before, and it's usually re-boxed CWR, but I have found silver in the dimes before. They've never had halves or Ikes. What do you think?
