Hey folks, we took a trip up north near the border, lots of banks don't even deal with canadian coins but several told me they could "order" canadian coins and currency, but this was a 2-night trip, so no can do there, so i went to various banks and no canadian money(i did buy coin rolls at each bank though), but one teller gave me a tip and told me to try the "duty free" shop on the american side(they only sell to canadians and do not charge a tax due to no import fees(correct me if i am wrong)),

solid roll of AU/BU 1958 Canadian pennies!!

roll 12:
solid roll of 1965 canadian pennies AU/BU(plus a 1953 penny)

these canadian penny rolls were interesting to say the least, never have i thought i would be getting solid AU/BU rolls of copper pennies from the 50s and 60s, but i never even thought of EVER getting an indian head penny(let alone 4!) inside of canadian penny roll either, heck, i did not even think of finding a wheat or even a copper memorial. My only conclusion is that somebody paid for a bottle of booze with their collection and went back across the canadian border, very interesting!
thanks for reading, pics coming soon! i never post pictures, but this requires one if i can get my scanner to work!

i thought the same thing, i am still amazed... i've been crh'ing cents for years and years now(5+ years) and have only found 2 indian head pennies from 1904 and 1907, i go to the duty free shop on the US/CANADA border to purchase some canadian penny rolls, and one roll had 4!! indian head pennies!

pictures coming :)

Sa-wheat! Who woulda thunk - IH's????

Fantastic results!

I think you would be astounded at the amount of American cents I come across when I roll search. Every box I come across I find wheats along with countless memorials, heck, last month I found two solid rolls of wheats when I went road tripping. Back in May I found my first and so far only indian head cent, 1902. And yes BuffaloBoy the solid rolls of copper in question are indeed solid rolls of copper. Glad to see you got something worth while.

Hey BB, great job. I remember we talked a little about you upcoming trip and I'm amazed by you results. Sweet score. Congrats.

enjoy!!
@ That Canadian Guy, you won't imagine how many canadian cents there are by the border! :hello: $29 worth of pennies gave me $1.30 in canadian cents(the reason i bought pennies). a staggering 4.4%.
@ mercury1, thanks for the advice, it really helped, the ride was beautiful too going through all the scenic landscape.

Sweet score there Buff, What are the odds huh, can't wait to see the pics! Maverick.

Wow, that 1985 ih looks to be in great shape!

@merc, the 1895 IHP is in the best condition of them all... I guess my 2012 goal to find a pre 1900 coin is off my list... now to go after a pre 1900 silver coin!
@maverick, what are the odds!! 4-5 years searching boxes of pennies to find 2 indian head pennies, i found 4 in one roll, and that roll was supposed to be canadian pennies!
@wicka, i'm still amazed with finding those IHP's, i know you want to find one real bad, trust me, keep at it and you'll find one!! they are incredibly rare to find via CRH but are cheap to buy. but i know you, why buy one when you can find one! :)

hh and thanks for the replies!

go for it!! I was walking down the street and came across a parking lot with a sign that said: USD $5 CAD $5... so i decided to ask if they had any canadian change i could buy, but they told me that they never get canadian change. the parking lot supervisor suggested to me the duty free shop, you know you gotta take the local advice, and it sure paid off! a teller also told me to try the duty free shop.

the sign said, "no pedestrians past this point"... but nothing was stopping me from getting to that duty free shop, but nobody questioned me as i walked past :)

Probably because you looked so confused, they thought you were a traveler ;)
Just kidding ofcourse :D

the thing is, americans cannot buy anything from the duty free shop on the american side, if that makes sense... the shop sells liquor, beer, cigarettes, etc. since it is duty free, there's no tax or import tax on the items for canadians since they bought them in the united states. The only thing i can refer it to is something like a case of budweiser beer...(strange example, but it makes sense)... in Canada, budweiser is imported; therefore, canadians in canada pay an import tax on that case of beer. where it might cost us $20 for a case of beer in america, it might cost them $30-35 in canada for the same thing... but you can buy that case of beer for $20-25 and bring it across the border due to no tax or import tax. there is a limit of what you can bring though.

americans can do the same thing on the canadian side.
