Been wanting to dig one of these since I started. It even has a tag!

Question is…should I clean and polish it? Might be a nice display piece.

Congrats on your old key. I personally like the just dug look. I only remove the dirt from the old keys I've dug.

Thanks! I do love how brass cleans up. Most things I don’t do much more than remove the dirt, but I’m leaning towards a bit more restoration, it’s got a lot of meat on it

If it were me. Whether I cleaned it or not would depend on what I am going to do with it. If I want to keep it indefinitely and display it, I would probably clean and shine it. If I was looking to sell it, I would leave it unpolished so the next owner would have options.
just my 2 cents

Very cool key and room tag. Great find. Congratulations! Thanks for sharing.

Well, the patina on these things shows its a classic piece, if you take the patina off, then you relegate it to classic junk...
Just my 2 cents. Copper and brass do not need super cleaning to see the antiquity value of an item..
Dug and recovered makes it a classic...
