I took my 2 1/2 year old son out to a couple of fields today because I always seem to find at least a broke when he is with me. His luck worked again today in a big way! The first field gave us a broken point, which usually means I had a good day.
Then it we were off to one more field. It was still pretty muddy from all of the recent rains, so I had to carry him most of the way. And wouldn't you know it, here comes a nice 20 minute shower. At this point we were wet, muddy and hot so I decided to hit up at least 1 washout. Once we got there, boom! This little beauty was looking up at us! A killer in my book. Only a little ear damage and made out of the always desired KRF.
At this point I am exausted but pumped to have found 2 artifacts, one of which is in my top 5 finds ever. It was time to leave. As I am lugging my kiddo a half of a mile back to the car, I see something that stopped me dead in my tracks. It was grooved hardstone. That, coupled with the heat and exaustion of carrying my son through a muddy mess, should have given me a heart attack. Luckily it didn't and I was able to make an amazing day better by letting my good luck charm pluck out this once in a lifetime Keokuk axe.
It has been my mission to find one of these as long as I have had this hobby. Now I have found one, but more importantly, I made a great memory with my son. And I probably won't ever have another day out when I can say that a killer Gibson made out of KRF isn't my best find. I got my father's day present a week early and I couldn't have asked for anything better.
