Abit hard to make out with sure small pictures, can you blow them up?

Really strange to have found that item where you did.

If it was a foundry reject it would of been re-used.

Stolen from a park and dumped?

Perhaps it was taken from somewhere and it was being transferred to a foundry to be processed by the Confederate Army to use for Cannons or other military purpose. The Yankees were on their tail.

If it was WWII I would think that they would of fished it out.

I believe that the 4 square pegs are for alignment to the body and judging from the 12" length that the body would be over 5' in height.

How about some larger pics to identify the head gear?

Checked out foundry shopmarks and...Nothing so far, with a circle and 3 dots.

I mean this is not an item that could be carried in your pocket, much less easily lost. Even if it was a hood ornament for a tractor. :-\

Very strange find.

Isn't that from the worlds largest chess set? A pawn I think... ::)

Really though... that is a cool find!! Dang, I'd love to have that big bronze cartoon head thing around the house! I hope you find out what it is!

it looks like an ornamental figure off of an old ship to me! if it is its an outstanding find!

Very cool find!!! ;D
It looks architectural to me, something you may find in a garden or ornament on a building.

I received some additional information from Joseph3rd in a form of a PM and he states that there is a SHIP in the area where the Bronze Head was found.

The area is in the vicinity of Belle Point at the Old Port of Fort Smith.

He believes that the head may have been hit, perhaps, by a cannonball as it shows some damage. and it appears that the head may have had some plumage at one time.

The area where it was found, he further states, is a site where many boats were sunk. However, Arkansas did not record a lot of history of the action there. He is pursuing some historical information from Oklahoma as they did keep better historical records.

Hope this information from Joseph3rd sheds a little more light.
