Field Of Legends, Cut Cob

Another great day of hunting with South Jersey Jim and Goldirocks at the Field of Legends. Like all of the other hunts you just know that something good is right in front of you. You just have to catch up to it. The cut silver has been on my wish list and is my first. After posting this thread I found out that it is actually a cut cob , my second from this site. The piece right next to the cut silver is silver, not sure if it was a button piece or a cut reale. A silver snap with stone, a piece of silver buckle, another silver thimble piece, a silver link that was stuck in the folds of my pouch from last week. A 1854 large cent with three other fried cents. One looks to have been partially burnt. I found a hunk of copper that was about the same weight as a copper in the same four foot area. 29 buttons in all. Watch case and center frame. A 22mm big navy button, thimble, and allot of hardware. Also found a decorative double sided round piece with lines with a hole in the middle. Looks like it was made from a copper. great day of hunting...

That was for sure a great day! Nice assortment of finds there! Interesting is that i have a button with exact the same design of the one right in the last pic somewhere in my collection. :occasion14:

Now that's great bunch of finds.thanks for sharing.

Wow great bunch of finds! Didn't get to see them upfront and personal:) Weren't you scared to be there after dark all alone??? That would freak me out! Did you hear any animal noises out there? I assume you bought a flash light. If I didn't hear from you I thought we would send out the search party for you. Congrats Arty! It's been awesome:)

Nice group of finds Art. Cut silver is rare as hens teeth in New Jersey, but that is not your typical cut from a piece of Spanish milled silver. I'm not sure what coin that came from or if it is a cut cob? I would love to have seen that silver knee or shoe buckle complete. That is a rich site you guys are hunting. You will be able to go there for many years and still find stuff. It's just too bad the soil is so hard on copper and brass, some of those early naval buttons would be beautiful.

Congrats on your first cut piece. It's unbelievable the amount of buttons and coins that are coming out of that place. Where's the other piece of silver that could be a coin that you mentioned in your post?

What a haul Art. That whites is a silver vacuum. Awesome stuff as usual. Cut silver is also very cool and hard to come by in NJ. You tha man.

Congrats!! Really nice set of finds! Would be nice to join you guys for a hunt some time either down there or up here in northern NJ.

You are as excitable as I am. Thanks... No to all your questions except noises. I unplugged my headphones, anything hearing that chatter was long gone... I did hear hooters up toward the tree lines as I was leaving.

Thanks Steve. I was hoping someone might know what the cut silver is. When I first pulled it I thoght the same thing. Cut Cob or milled. I agree with the soil conditions. Speaking with Jim I commented on how many buttons and coins were destroyed and how many great finds will never be known....

Thanks joeyfresh. The picture with the dark hunk is silver. It was in a very muddy hole. I'm going to try cleaning it lightly to see if anything surfaces...

I would agree with Steve that your coin is actually part of a cob, and is not the usual cut silver. I found a similar piece around here that I posted a couple weeks ago. Mine was dated 1719 and was definitely a cob. Regardless, that's an awesome find coming from an even more awesome site. Very nice!

Yes young Jim, I eat cobs for breakfast...:lunchbox: Crazy my second from this site. There are more.....
 all I get are corn cobs , awesome Spanish cob discovery .

IMO Possibly site of a small tavern or stage stop that you inadvertently stumbled across . Look for remnants of red brick and shell frags .
