We only had a small 2 hour 15 min window to detect & started on the best Barley Stubble option we have.
This field we have really rinsed in the past few years but there are still coins coming off; even after we have GPSed over 1600 from the site. (Our highest of any site)
At least the hard times are behind us. (although the tough period turn out pretty good)

It's a start:

10 Scrappies
Roman Silver Denarius of Vespasian (small frag, but it counts...)

Glad to see you had a silver start into the harvest season!
Didn't remember many silvers coming off that field. Did you know the bronze/silver ratio there?

Your correct, not many silver & the ones we got were not that great.
In the 80-100 range rather than the 50ish we normally get.

Sometimes you really have to think what site you detect. You come over low yield sites with still a couple silvers and have a site with that many bronzes and half about your average...

Yeap, not 'A' Villa, a small settlement controlled by the Roman Military. In modern terms a hamlet that had farming at it's heart but other buildings that supported it including a small metal working house/blacksmith. Basically a Roman controlled farmstead/tenant set up that had the nearby River as a main distribution channel. Successful enough that it grow because of good flood plain/sandy soil. Sprung up from a tiny Iron Age round house.

Makes more sense than a single Villa. We usually have less coins on Villa sites rather than farms with more population and metalworking.
