That heart shaped object is an intact CW era heel plate!!! Get that cleaned up and posted!! I attached the ones I found back in February. As you see, they pale in comparison to yours!! If you are finding a heel plate and dropped minie-ball, you may have a camp in the area.

Awesome finds!!! Well done!! :icon_thumleft:

got the whole salad bowl there nice hit on the Injun and other goodies

Yea I was lucky to have found mine intact and in great shape!

Looks like you are getting the hang of that machine quickly. Great machine for picking through the heavy iron. I have about 4 of those CW era heel plates, all of that design. Good luck on your next hunt!

ive repeated this a few times as ive read it here before and other places the heat shaped heel plates were worn by ladies of the night so as stragers in town could follow the heel prints to the low fun house or follow a women on the street and safely ask her without insulting the wrong women very cool find

Then agree to disagree. My source in Wilmington, NC stated that they were worn by soldiers to save wear on their boots. He also added that the designs were just for cosmetics and did not relate to Regt's in either Army. I think that if they were used by "Ladies of the Night", then more would have been found in the walls of old houses of ill repute and not out in open fields where civil war camps had been. Just saying....
