The bare worked areas of the fields where frozen solid so I checked the ground under the grassy areas around the outside perimeter of the field and found them diggable. Was wondering if the ground was soft because of the insulation factor or maybe wicking of the moisture, another mystery. Pulled a really decorative brass catch along with a couple of buttons, possibly a part of a watch chain and a ring without the bling. It was nice getting out in the cold air. Hoping for another thaw. Nice finds!
i notice that ground in the woods freezes much later than other places. I think it's the insulating factor of the leaves.

Nice finds! I love to hit the edges of the fields too! :icon_thumleft:

nice design on that latchy thing... ya it seems like the open ground freezes 1st then the covered ground freezes later... in the spring the open ground thaws 1st and the covered ground thaws later...just an observation..

Great looking finds there Arty! :icon_thumright:
Really like this Eastlake style latch, very cool piece! :notworthy:

good hunt!!!! MR TUFF

Great diggs, I also love to hit the edges too!!! Everybody loves to go straight to the center of the fields just like other MDrs have for decades so they are lucky to get anything. hahaha

Cool finds arty ! I like the Eastlake latch and found the same style ring last year , kind of weird , prong settings , gold plated, with no stones ...not sure how old :icon_scratch: but still a surprise dig :icon_thumleft:

Very odd shaped ring for sure. Cracker Jacks. Its fun digging the old farmsteads that are still in use. There is such a wide varity of stuff.
