Had a few hrs this afternoon. Went to a buddy’s farm in central Va to join him to detect. Site dates to early 1700s and has a good deal of CW activity. I Found 2 flat buttons, a 1888 and 1903 ihp, several pieces of brass (I’m calling horse tack, because I have no other idea) and my 3-fer…a 1834 capped dime. First silver of the year, first capped anything I’ve ever found, and oldest silver (that I can read the date) that I’ve ever found. She’s in really good shape in my opinion, especially for her age. Buddy found a scabbard tip and the very small round brass item in my pics (will show up in what is it shortly). Says “state of New Jersey” and has the NJ seal in the middle. It’s tiny, half or less the size of a dime. Best day of the year so far, hopefully I can get a few more days before they plant soybeans.

Nice catch on the Capped dime.
Planting beans, wow.
We still have 5-6 weeks yet before that happens.

That’s a really nice coin. About EF condition. Maybe even AU condition. If it wasn’t for that bad scratch, that would have been a $300 coin, at least. By 1834, the US mint still hadn’t caught up with demand for coinage. We were still using more Spanish silver then. US silver was still scarce for another 20 yrs. I cropped your pic for us coin collectors! I love those capped bust coins and I collect halves. I use one for my avatar.

When I get home I’ll try to take a better pic of just the coin for you

I put in a coin fold……hopefully that doesn’t mess up the pic. At least you can zoom now.

Has anyone noticed these coins (at least this one aren’t symmetrical from one side to the other? What I mean is if the date one the front side is at 6:00, when flipped over the 10 C is at about 7:00
