Here a few of my favorite finds all the ones in the picture are from oregon, most found in my parents garden growing up.
Pictures next to the pottery were found at my grandparents place in New Mexico, the picture of the pottery bowls my grandpa and I would make for presents when I was younger.

What the heck is the round rock in the quarter picture? It's not obsidian but all black and perfectly round, I can get more pics if you like. Tool?projectile? Always wondered

Great Stuff! The pottery artwork is very nice!

I think that what you are wondering about is what we would call a game ball.

Game ball possibly then again if you had dinos running around way back when it might be a stomach stone they used them in their gizzards to help digest their food.

Some real nice finds and the pot out of shards is very cool:icon_thumleft:

that would be what they call a Gastrolith and hinting it may be one based on that picture is one heck of a stretch rock. Could be a petrified dinasaur egg worked down too for that matter. Lets just stick with what is practical and likely

Game ball or Dino something, I like it. That's really interesting, thanks for all the input!

Wow just gave my thoughts on the piece. No need to get nasty :tongue3:

I don't believe that suggesting it might be a gastrolith is a "stretch"..... a single photo sure doesn't provide enough information to be certain whether it is or isn't.

But I can assure you it ain't no egg.

I said it due to the fact it has tiny deep pecked looking marks but yet the skin is smooth and it is black. I have seen a few and it is a close call on them between game ball and the other. All the ones I have seen (gastrolith stones) are black maybe they come in other colors IDK. I almost bought 1 once just cause it was neat looking.

You are free to have any opinion on what is a stretch that you want. Fortunately most of us know a good opinion when we see one. The egg theory from one poor quality picture is no more a stretch than the other. But, game ball, is not really a stretch at all, that's why I suggested it right away.

I honestly dont think it is either, just a neat natural stone...

NOTWORTY super finds ;) .... And it is more than just a neat natural rock IMHO ;) I would look up some info on the gastrolith that would make it even better of a find !!!

I'll look into the gastrolith theory a bit more, I always though it was a cool rock so I can't be disappointed if that's what it ends up being. I also have a arrow head cut out filled with arrow head bits and pieces somewhere:icon_scratch: much like the pot of pots. Fun to make and cool way to display

Can you give us a better pic of it from different angles?

I know of 1 game ball from my area that is black and all of the others are white so its not impossible.
