why do you suppose he kept it?

Curious about what's written on lable looks like some type of signature

Possibly he served in Italy during WWII and it's a surviving soldiers souvener.

A symbolic feature.

you never know do you...i have little bits of garbage that are significant to me but will be the first thing in the dumpster when i pass. I have a friend that has a truly wonderful collection of Canadian coins...the joke with his kids is that when he goes they are making a trip to the coin star.

Interesting find, older bottles with labels are hard to come by. This bottle has a good color, looks like a blue-green tint from the pictures. Colors in a bottle other than aqua or clear usually bring more value. The attraction with this bottle however is the label. To get an idea of the age of this bottle you can check the very top where the label is missing and look for a seem. There are two but only one may be visible because part of the label is still attached. Don't take off any of the label! If you do not see a line that's ok. If you do find a line or a seem and it stops before it gets to the top this would indicate it was made in the late 1800s. If no seem at all then also around that same time period. If there is a line and it goes all the way to the top this means it was made after 1900. Bottles not made in the U.S. Can be hard to price. A good source for info on this bottle would be if you can attend a bottle show. There are local and national shows that come around and can be found by looking online for your area. I have one that comes every year and happens to be less than ten minutes from my house. You would be able to ask different dealers and collectors about your find. Good luck and keep it inside and dry to protect the label.
