Long time detectorist (since 1990). Deus user since 2014. Picked up a Deus II a year ago. Finally got a chance to use it for the 1st time today on an old, thoroughly searched site. Finding this coin was pure luck because I have no idea what I'm doing with a Deus II. Tried to focus on the thick iron bed where hundreds of amazing finds came from years prior but this detector is certainly not my old Deus. Found this coin in the area just outside of the iron bed. Clearly I have a lot of relearning to do. I mostly dug iron nails. Other than this, I found maybe 5 small musket balls, scrap lead, 3 carpenter tacks and a button. This coin was in a hole with iron. I'm guessing the farm equipment moved it a little over the last few years (since we last searched it) and that is why I heard it.

Great find;
If the crown above the pillar is royal, it's from the period 1747-1757.
If the crown above the pillar is imperial, it's from the period 1754, 1757-1760.

Congratulations on the cut silver.
You're going to be surprised at what you can recover out of the iron with the Deus ll.
Nails will produce a iron grunt on each side of the sound.
Takes a bit to get a handle on the programs over the D1.

No, you probably heard it because the DEUS II can pick good targets with iron on top of them, I can't tell you how many wheats I've dug with a nail coming out of the hole first..
Congratulations !!

Great coin gwdigger! I predict you will love your new Deus 2. Do you recall which program you were running? Congrats!
I was using Sens FT which I had customized as GWSENFT and saved a year ago. There is also another that I customized as GWFAST which I never got around to trying. I plan to take my old Deus out next time and compare the two units. Hopefully I can figure it out. Usually at this place I can get more targets out of the iron but I got tired of digging nails and other iron pieces. They sounded great even after breaking the ground. With my old Deus, I would always know that a non ferrous piece was down there even if I had to pull 2 or 3 nails out before I got to it. I've heard nothing but good things about the DEUS 2 in iron beds so I know it's my lack of experience with it. Anyway, this place was a huge plantation and has a vast iron bed as bad as you can imagine. It's also the best place I have ever metal detected and there isn't even a close 2nd.

Congrats on a great find ! :icon_thumright:

You might want to check out Gary Blackwell's "Tekkna" Program.
It's a modified version of the Sensitive Full Tones program.
I've been using it on some of my old, "hunted out" heavy iron sites for the last few weeks.
The results have been amazing !

Good Hunting !

Awesome find for a pounded site. I find mostly nothing but disappointment at my old colonial sites these days.
My wife and I have gotten out maybe 3 or 4 times in the last few years. We've been taking care of my special needs son. I'm hoping to revisit this place again soon. Still stuff here thankfully.
