Fenwick Island

If memory serves me correct, Coin Beach is in the Delaware Seashore State Park. I have tried it once several years ago, with no luck. Going down in a few days and will let you know how it was. The state park has two beach areas (again, if my memory is right). Ocean City should be real good. Every time I have been there the place was chock full of people. Before the crowds come in has always been a good time.
If you are going to Fenwick Island, there is a great museum called Discoversea Shipwreck Museum (www.discoversea.com). It is on top of a Sea Shell City and it is free to get in. There is a treasure chest for you to put a donation in if you would like. Also, the Sea Shell City, sells some scoops, etc, in case your breaks, lost, etc. Hope it helps.

i have tried coin beach before also with no luck. unless you are lucky enough to get there after a major storm that has eroded the beach i would think it wouldnt be worth it. it also gets a lot of attention from other hunters as well. OC maryland can be good during the summertime for the usual beach stuff (jewelry and clad). oh....and i agree, the shipwreck museum is a must see if you are anywhere near fenwick island! and its free to boot!

Thanks for the tip on the museum. Do you guys know if Ocean City require a permit? I 'll have to give a call to the police dept. there.

I honestly don't know about Ocean City. Rehoboth Beach (just up the road a few miles from OC) does not. Just go to the beach and have fun and of course the basic beach rules (don't get too close to the other folks, stay off of the dunes, and fill your holes. Told to me by the police dispatcher when I called. Hope it helps.

Coin beach is on the north side of the Indian River Inlet. Up to 1/4 mile.
Best bet I would guess is after a big Hurricane or nor-easter

Coin Beach, Delaware near Indian River Inlet Location, north?

Hello, been trying to find out the exact location of Coin Beach (Delaware)
and how to get there (not familiar with the area) - are there any maps on the net - can't find
any - just going for the day for 'fun'.
Can anyone tell me how to get there exactly?
We are taking a 1 or 2 day vacation with the coin detector this next
wk. 8/07 - Thank you, ~J~

from PA take I95 SOUTH to 13 SOUTH, to RT1 SOUTH, follow through rehobeth beach de. you will come to a bridge that goes over the Indian river inlet. coin beach is the 1 1/2 mile stretch of beach on the left right before the bridge, or in other words the north side of the inlet. the shipwreck museum is about 4 miles up on the right after you go over the bridge.

Coin Beach ~ Faithful Steward Shipwreck

UPDATE:
Did get to Coin Beach, Delaware - it is an interesting site, but no coins were to be found for us - , just some deep hits and wasn't going to dig 4 to 6 ft...
Thought about dropping a fake treasure coin in the sand, but didn't want my
husband to have his 1st heart attack...he wouldn't share my metal detector
often (this was a surprise, thought I was the only one interested in this area); but that's okay, we both enjoyed the search - it is fun looking in a place where they do find coins.
For those not familiar with it: the story behind the Faithful Steward shipwreck is sad - the passengers and crew were sailing from Londonderry, Ireland aboard the ship: The Faithful Steward.
The ship unfortunately ran aground at Cape Henlopen - that was on on Sept 1, 1785 and only 68 of the total aboard survived from about 249 persons) - the irony of it is the ship was found to be only 100 ft. from shore...
The location is kind of 'eerie'; did not like the waves and stayed on shore - guess we have been reading too many shipwreck stories and it was a dreary weather day.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks so much ~ probably be there, but with an
umbrella :)

I came back from Delaware Seashore State Park on Saturday (August 25th) and no luck with either Coin Beach or the beach in the park. Just some clad. It was good though just to get out. I did see one other MDer at the park who had a Whites DFX (I think). Did not speak to him though, He just waved. Beach was pretty busy during the day. The fishing was not good either. Just good to get away. That is always a nice place.
