My cousin Ryan(flyinryan2) and I hit one of my spots today that sets on the Virginia and West Virginia line. I've been hunting here since April of this year and thought for sure I had most of the hot spots cleaned out, but boy was I wrong. With the snow melting and the ground softer than dry sand, my F75 was in TRUE form today, digging all the deep unnoticed targets of before. I ended up digging 22 bullets, one which was carved, 2 swage based bullets and various 3 ringers. Also dug a beautiful colonial medallion of sorts that I'm guessing attached to a necklace. The real beauty of the hunt was the Federal officer staff cuff button. It sure cleaned up nice with tons of gold gilt remaining. It was a beautiful day of relic hunting with my cousin and couldn't ask for more! Thanks for looking and HH!

very nice!!!!!!!!!

That was a killer hunt Matt! Love that staff button and carved bullet. I'm really not sure of the age of that medallion. If I remember correctly, I think you've made some colonial finds at this site. If so, that could very well be a late colonial find. Glad you could get out, and it looks like the weather will cooperate with you the next 2-3 days. Good luck!

Hey, Bill. Thank you! Yes, I have made colonial finds here, but very sparse and scattered and in a different part of the field. But I have found colonial buttons in different parts of the farm. The style certainly looks colonial, but it is hard to tell. I feel you would know better than I would, but I don't know if this certain piece could ever truly be dated exactly.

I think heaven must be kind of like the day hunting you had, more CS buckles and Confederate buttons, but a lot like your day! Great work!

STELLAR DAY MATT!!!! Don't you just love it when you think you've got a spot clean and BAM 22 bullets! That button is SICK my man. That's a way to ring out a year.. Hopefully you can get a few more hunts in.. CONGRATS... HH

Wow...... awesome hunt my friend.:hello:

Man, that's a FINE hunt!

Matt, I always thought that the swaged bullets are cool. We don't find many here. You & F2 had a great hunt. May 2014 be your best hunting year ever, Q.

Well done. I like those swaged bullets. The only place I have ever dug them was in Southwestern Virginia and Southern West Virginia at camps.

Cheers,

Buck

I found a medallion similar to that in a spot with a lot of Victorian stuff .....I mean...it could be colonial...but....doesn't feel like it to me......

Thanks everyone. I too, also considered Victorian age. Also thought maybe it could have been 2 piece, but not sure.
