I'm not a button guy and could use some help :) Any info would be great and possibly some good button research resources....

UPDATE-

Attempted to clean and I refuse to go any further with the cleaning process because im happy as is...I do not want to worry about killing this button. My only question is the backstamp is "SCOVILL-MFG.CO." and not the "SCOVILL-MG CO." that it was suppose to be....what does that mean?

Re: Federal Navy Button? Any idea on age...

Nice button !
looks to match Tice NA227A23, back should read 'Scovill MG CO'
(no F :icon_scratch: )
Made from 1860 +.
Great Digs !
Oops :-[
Just read about cuff size, would be NA233, made in 1850's, same backmark.
