Favorite hunts

Water. Easier on the back and knees. No sweating either. Higher percentage of rings and less pull tabs. But, we have a short season in New England. Still haven't been in yet.

I go anywhere I have permission. It's all fun, but being in western Pa old parks and farms are my go to.

I will hunt anywhere, would love to hunt the beaches/water more, I haven't had much luck there yet

-Acreage of the finest soil quality (=has been in till since 3000 years)
-Best on or near were two old roads (roman or medival) crossed.
-Cossing should be not square but acute so that two unusable triangles have been in place (rest areas)
-On strong slope, were people would check and secure waggons bofore going up/down and pedestrians would rest a while and catch breath once they are up.

Much to my regrets, these sites are rare to the point of non-existance.

P.S: We are allowed to dream, arent we :laughing7:

My current favorite sites are:

1.Old home properties...the older the better.
2. Swimming beaches
3. Street tear-outs/curb strips
4. Campgrounds

Of course, I'll take a trip to England or other country in Europe over all of them! :icon_thumleft:

Beaches, I would rather use a sand scoop than a shovel. Most of all my good finds so far come from the beach and shallow water. Always cooler near the water, no bugs, no mosquitoes, no bees. More relaxing. I will still do the odd park or field but I prefer the beach.

I just relocated to nevada and am having a hard time finding old parks like they have back east. Tried old mining camps but theres just thousands of bits of trash everywhere so that makes it impossible. Trying my luck with water as of recently. Still no great finds but my fingers are crossed

use a rare earth magnet on the end of a piece of pvc to clean up some of the trash.i do a 20 x 20 area at a time.good luck brad

If I hunt with:
GB2---------Gold bearing shallow stream bed crevices with 3-3/4" coil. Leftover dredge piles with larger coil.
1265X-------Woods for relics and some old dirt roads.
LRP----------Parks, Beach, old homesteads, etc.
It all depends on the mood and where I am.

I've been keeping my eye open for any yards getting ripped out and re seeded. Seems to be happening a lot in my area. Scored this from one house in 2 hours. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1529765239.552957.jpg

Thats a great day of detecting right there. I'm still looking for older areas of the city i live in.

My choices :

1. Very early Farm Fields (old coins and relics)
2. Very early Homes (old coins and relics)
3. Old Parks (old coins and jewelry)
4. Old Schools (old coins and jewelry)
5. Playgrounds (easy money and jewelry)
6. Beach/Water (easy money and better/real jewelry

All of these places produce a tremendous amount of junk!

Good Luck and Happy Hunting

My favorites are: old farms/farm fields, old parks, old schools, and lately, old athletic fields. An old football field/track near me has yielded over fifty silvers the past two years. I'd LOVE to try my hand at a beach...but I'm hundreds of miles from any good ones. 😞

BEACHES
easy digging, saltsmell and scenic views

Living in civil war country I look for places that would have been good to camp at. Access to water, maybe a high spot for lookout good drainage in case of rain are all clues. I also pay minimal attention to places that are easy to hunt; if it's easy it most likely has been pounded.

The library of congress and local sources are great sources for old maps too; just keep in mind they didn't have GPS and are likely way out of kilter as far as scale goes; sometimes a vertical inch equals half a mile while a horizontal inch equals 3 miles. ha

Good luck.

colonial farm fields on land - usually spring and fall
and any type or place in the water - all year long but of course summer is best

Think i found another old ghost town im gonna tey my luck at. I havent found a lot of old places in Nevada that a lot of people frequent

i like to hunt old plow fields, old home sites and around the edges of creeks

I try to research areas and look for those based on what I learn -- that's my favorite location: the one with historic meaning or interest.

Beyond that I will hit any of the usual places already mentioned. We have a lot of kayaking in my area, so I am in creeks and streams a lot.

My primary favorite area is wherever Jesse James left his plunder... having a bloody hard time finding that spot tho! :laughing7:
