My favorite point of all time resides in that museum. Wish I had a pic of it.

I found a pic of that point. I can't imagine a sweeter lithic than this fire opal point!

A fire opal in my area would have been a god back then. Amazing.

I have always wanted to go to Oregon/Washington to find a couple of those small beautiful points.

All of the folks posting on here are telling the truth. It is one awesome place, and if the collection gets broken up, most people will never get to see the sheer scope of what is on display there in one place ever again. There have been a couple of times that I've driven to K. Falls and stayed in a motel just to go visit Favell's. If you are anywhere close, a visit is well worth the trip. Talking about Columbia River Gem points, a visit to Favell's will make you think that they are easy to find. The early people in Oregon were extremely talented craftsmen, and not only did they make useful tools, they made art, functional art.

Places like this are treasures. The Wigwam Diner in Fernley was a joy to dine at and gaze at the walls chock full of artifacts, all broke up now...sad.If I was a wealthy man, this place would be taken care of forever

I believe it was originally found by a sheep herder out on the Black Rock Desert in NW Nevada. There are opal mines over toward McDermitt. That one is on display inside a walk-in vault.

Kuger,

I know just what you mean. The Indian Village in Lakeview, Ore, had a spectacular collection, gone to the four winds now...

Bosn,I have an obsidian point that looks like the same artist that made that Opal point made this one.The Opal point was found by a sheep herder

Is it still open?...there were a few links to articles suggesting it was in serious danger of closing due to financial difficulties.
