I spent 7 hours on my own on our no.1 Fav Field yesterday. This was the last day I could detect before it changed ownership. I was close to doing 7 hours when I was chased off by a tractor spraying some smelling yellow looking chemicals.
I started off with a hammered & thought I might make 3 like Sat & Sun but I only could find scrappies; 21 - a very good total for the field.

1794 Netherlands Coin
Henry III shortcross (I like these)
Tiny button
Nice Tombac Button - I only get 1 for every 500 with a pattern like this.
2 17th C Tokens
Lead Token
Small Medieval Horse Pendant
Possible Flintlock Furniture
17th C Button
Plus bits....

One of my fave buttons again! Too bad that you have to let this field go. Lots of medieval stuff there....

The cut silver, very cool!

The tombac button with the flower, very very cool!

? In the second pic is that a bird band? And is it a typical one found in the UK?

Wow........ as usual when I see your post. Congrats:icon_thumleft:

Great hunt to close out that site. You did quite well for a "rush" job.

Yes, a racing pigeon band.

Nice finds again Crusader , you have some great history there to uncover .. cheers Mick

Glad to see you and Cru'dad still finding the good stuff mate:thumbsup:. (you're dad in other posts). Had a long chat with shaun7 tonight, can't even begin to repeat 1/1000 of the content of the conversation, but we might go out in the nearish future, maybe. I found an archaeologists chart for a near field showing a roman cremation cemetery and religious site, still only 5 minutes walk from my current address.

take care mate

Nice cut shortcross half that would put a smile on the mug alone. Great looking button with all the wash remaining it's nice to see them come out in that condition.
Is there a recovery database for bird bands in the UK, or where there's a small reward for recovered bands?

2.gif NICE HAUL !!!

Nice totals for your hunt! The hammered is excellent of course, and the tombac with the flower is a great little find. Do you think you'll be able to hunt it again with permission from the new owner?

Best Wishes,

Buck

Without giving too much info, its a long shot, as they are a large faceless business group. We will try & if it happens it may lead to many other farms that they own.

The only bands you report are the wildlife type that they study (I have done this). The racing type are not worth tracking. I have come home with a couple of lost racing pigeons, & contact the owners only to find they are not even interested in getting back the pigeon, let alone the band. A pigeon that can't find its way home quick is useless to them.
