Father's Day help with ID

For Father's day I decided to put a frame together of the points I knew that my dad had found on our hunts. I wanted to provide the county found, date found(if known) and the point type. I am down to one point that I would love help with identifying. It was found in TN.
I know he will appreciate it even if I label it with my best guess, so fire away suggestions. Thanks! 20130605_210532.jpg20130605_210538.jpg

I looked through the Overstreet Guide and my initial thought was either Appalachian or Savannah River...but I really don't know. Thanks in advance for any input.

Savannah river was my initial thought. I'm rethinking that. Savannah rivers come straight out from the stem, not really notched. I can show you better than describe.

The center one.

Could it be a Kirk?

Pretty sure it is a Pickwick Joe. Look it up and see what you think?

See...I also had toyed with both Kirk and Pickwick...the point is either so worn down or worked from a really rough material (or both) that it is hard to visualize what it once looked like...the problem with the guide is the photos are of outstanding specimens...I think there would be some money to be made for a guidebook that uses the points with "character" that I and others find so identification is easier! Thanks for the suggestions..

A field grade guide would be great. I have plenty of examples for the book 8-)

Well ole Bob Overstreet the guy that made that book started out hunting your area. It is a real good start for our area but the problem I have is the prices they put on everything. It gets you close on I.d and other resources can nail it down. The guys around here call so many things site specific its like a secret society. Like we had an era called the Dallas period if you talk about that no one else knows what you are talking about. But most the old knowledge is being lost. We have a bunch of stemmers around here
Here is a few you will likely see. They all are similar to yours. I stink at I.D too but keep trying.

That is really cool to hear that he started around here....but also sad that so much knowledge is dying away...I hope guys like you will try to keep it from going completely lost....Geeze..that is a nice handful...
I like that orange/brown one in the front....there is something about ones that have a nice stem and notches....just visually pleasing...I like finding all kinds, but when one of them has that quintessential arrowhead profile...it kicks it up a notch!

I know I like that classic shape also. These are from our area. You just started and look how far you have come already with your finds. Doing a frame for your Dad? How cool is that ! That is the fun thing about this hobby is the sharing. Just keep it a hobby and it will stay fun. I have seen people get eaten alive with the fever.

Yes...I could see how it could consume you...I just read a bio of Overstreet online...he was ahead of his times and it is cool to think that he looked in the same spots I did....and that he didn't find them all!

He worked with my Uncle at Bowwater. He hunted Archie Lecroys old sites. Lecroy had a point named after him. I met Archies Granddaughter and she showed me some things he had given her. The Lecroy site is just up from us not to far. I need a type out of a creek from up there but have not had the effort to put into it. The type is named for the creek. Overstreet was ahead of his time with all his books. I wrote him once on the disputed snapped base kirk. Got as far as his secretary. The farther you get away from our area the less he is liked for his Id's. But it is the book that is most sold. I have a book that deals specifically with our area that is really good. I will send it to you in a pm.

If that book covers my area I would like to have the name of it also.

That is cool as heck! You have ties to Overstreet. Is he so famous that his mail has to be scanned or culled out by a secretary or is he just wealthy enough to have that? I think I would get curious and read the culled mail first, if I were in his position. He probably really read your letter and never responded. Had he responded, debate would have started and potentially created question of his theory. Lol! Like it doesn't!
